Ian Farooque

Ian's experience in the corporate sector coupled with his JD/MBA offer him an insightful and unique perspective in his approach to Corporate, Commercial, and Real Estate Law at Thompson MacColl & Stacy LLP.

 

Prior to joining TMS, Ian summered with several high profile Toronto litigation firms, but decided that his real passion was in corporate law. He attended law school at both the University of Toronto and University of Ottawa, where he was the recipient of the prestigious Jay S. Hennick Community and Business Leadership scholarship. Ian obtained his MBA from the Telfer School of Management, and he obtained his Bachelor’s degree with High Distinction from the University of Toronto.

 

Prior to the practice of law, Ian worked as a management consultant, where he helped national and multinational corporations streamline their operations, employ best practices, and maximise their profitability. Ian’s consulting experience provided him with insight into a vast variety of industries and helps him to view legal challenges from a different perspective. Lawyers are trained to be risk averse and often advise their clients to avoid transactions which contain an element of risk. Ian’s approach is to meet his clients’ diverse demands, wants, and needs by finding ways to manage that risk. Rather than asking can we do this, Ian asks how can we do this?

 

Ian joined the firm in 2019 as an articling student and was hired back as an associate lawyer after he was called to the Bar in June 2020.
